Frequently asked questions
How many words should my video script be?
Work backwards from your target length: at ~140 wpm, a 1-minute video is ~140 words, a 5-minute video ~700 words, and a 10-minute video ~1,400 words. Paste your draft here to check it against your target.
Does the word counter store my script?
No. Everything runs in your browser — your script is never uploaded or saved. Close the tab and it’s gone.
What counts as a word?
Any run of non-space characters separated by spaces or line breaks, the same way speaking-time estimates are calculated. Numbers and hyphenated terms count as one word each.
How is the speaking time estimated?
We divide the word count by your chosen words-per-minute pace. 130 wpm is the default for clear on-camera delivery; switch pace to match a speech, podcast or short-form read.
